Résumé

In 1939, republican Spain was exiled after a bloody and cruel civil war. The refugees expressed their strong desire to write about their experiences. A young Catalan playwright, María Luisa Algarra, a refugee in France, wrote a play that, we speculate, could be based upon her own experiences, given the many mysteries surrounding her life story: did she belong to the French Resistance? Is the play purely autobiographical or is it also a symbolic text that evokes the state of Europe at that time? Primavera inútil introduces us to a group of antifascists in 1939, who take refuge in a French castle, hoping to flee from Europe. Romantic bonds are formed, and through them a significant emotional symbolism appears which reflects the crisis in the Old World.
