Elements biographiques
In English. Jocelyn “Joyce” Martin researches on Literature, Memory, and Trauma Studies in Southeast Asia; on postcolonial literature, the politics of listening, diaspora, Translation Studies, the environmental humanities, and the vernacular, among others. Trained in European universities (Westminster, Ircom, ULB), she holds a PhD in languages and literatures from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and an MA in European Journalism. Her forthcoming publications for 2023-2024 include book chapters on comfort women statues (Berghahn); the environmental humanities and photography (Brill); and a volume on Memory Studies and the Philippines (Brill). Advisory Board Member of the Memory Studies Association, Editorial Board member of “Mobilizing Memories” book series, and former University of Ohio Zumkehr Lecturer, she received a “Most Outstanding Scholarly Award in the Humanities” in 2020 and a “Scholarly Work with the Most Social Impact Award” for the book Triggered in 2022. She has been interviewed by CNN and The Scholar’s Circle for her expertise on the Marcos dictatorship. Raised in the Philippines and Europe, with an experience in financial PR in Merrill Lynch France, Jocelyn publishes in English, speaks Filipino, French, and Italian; reads Spanish; and possesses some German and Chinese. Associate Professor at the Ateneo de Manila University and Managing Editor for Scopus-indexed Kritika Kultura for the last eleven years, where she taught literary and cultural criticism, postcolonial studies and introduction to literature, she also now teaches at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest in Angers, France (Updated Sept. 2023).
En français. Titulaire d'un doctorat en langues et littératures et d'un Master en journalisme européen, Jocelyn "Joyce" Martin se spécialise en Memory et Trauma Studies en Asie. Elle a publié sur les dictatures, les cimetières et la traduction (Routledge) ; « la mémoire » de Platon à nos jours (Bloomsbury), le vernaculaire comme méthode (MSJ) et l'écoute éthique dans les catastrophes climatiques (FWLS). Des chapitres sur des monuments « comfort women » (Berghahn) ; les humanités environnementales et la photographie (Brill) ; et un livre sur la mémoire et les Philippines sont à paraître en 2023/2024. Associate Professor à l'Université Ateneo de Manille et rédactrice de Kritika Kultura (indexé Scopus) pendant onze ans, elle a assuré les cours de critique culturelle et littéraire (de Platon à nos jours), introduction à la littérature, Memory Studies, et études postcoloniales. Elle enseigne aujourd'hui à l'Université Catholique de l'Ouest. Collaboration PhD entre UCO et la National University of Malaysia (UKM) par la présence de Mlle Anne Vincent
Following the MOU with Université Catholique De L'ouest (UCO ANGERS), duly signed by the UKM (National University of Malaysia) Vice-Chancellor and UCO Rector, Angers, the Phd student Anne Vanessa Vincent from the Postcolonial Literatures in English Phd Programme successfully obtained the Doctoral Mobility Award 2024 from the French Embassy in Malaysia. Anne was based at UCO as part of the UKM-UCO student mobility exchange from 1 September 2024 to 31 December 2024, under the supervision of Brad Safarik and Jocelyn Martin (UCO) and Shanthini Pillai, her supervisor in UKM.

- Sugat: Stories and Science for Sustainability (recherche-action) | 2023The 10th anniversary of Typhoon Haiyan in 2023 summons a working-through of trauma that is still in progress despite rehabilitation of the local economy and infrastructure. Exemplified by the Filipino word "Sugat," referring to both “wound” and “encounter,” the project is focused on providing sustainable education in a variety of forms to help Filipinos cope with natural calamities, including podcasts that render sustainability as an integral and indissociable aspect of daily life.

- Scholarly Work with the Most Social Impact Award | 2022Prix accordé par l'Ateneo de Manila pour le rayonnement social du projet Triggered qui a attiré une vingtaine de volontaires pendant quatre ans et qui a ouvert un programme d'aide aux orphelins de la "guerre de drogue" du Président Duterte. Il y a environ 200 enfants tués qui attendent toujours la justice.
